My sweet baby boys are 1.5 years old! We’ve got two full-fledged toddlers in the house! And it’s nuts! And really fun! And yea, really exhausting lol! Just like I did with our 12-month update, Aaron and I took photos of the boys just doing their thang one weekend day. I love capturing them like this in their natural habitat mostly because I rely on these posts to be the baby books I never had a chance to do (eep!).
When they eat, to keep them occupied and eating and distracted, we sing (no, perform really) a LOT of songs. The first photo is Itsy Bitsy Spider, where we sing, “… down came the rain and WASHED the spider out…” and basically Aaron and I flail around and act ridiculous. They think we’re hysterical. The more ridiculous, animated moves the better. The second photo is Baby Shark and if you’re a mom to toddlers, I assume you are also on the Baby Shark train. My kids “do do do” all day long and we sing Baby Shark at least 50 times a day it seems! Also, we get ridiculous with it and sometimes accidentally faux-violent (shark attack!) which of course is hysterical for everyone.
Teller’s 18-Month Update
Weight: 23.3 lbs (37th percentile)
Height: 31.5 (19th percentile)
Head: 19.75 (98th percentile)
Diaper Size: 4
Clothing Size: 18-24 months
Teeth: 12!! (When I did his 12-month update, he only had two!)
Nicknames: TT, Teller Man, Teller Feller, Bubba, TT Glenn
Personality: We’ve got a fiesty one on our hands! This boy is an Aries through and through. Quiet but fiery!! He can throw tantrums with the best of them, shoot you an icy glare, whack his brother and blow you a kiss… all within 3 minutes! Phew! His reputation of being a Sour Patch Kid (first sour, then he’s sweet) holds true. He’s a lot like his momma (muahaha). He’s getting so good in public settings with new people. His shyness is subsiding. He needs some time to sit back and observe first, but once that’s through, he’s off to the races and making friends and babbling away.
Sleep: We somehow reached this amazing stage where bedtime consists of a bath, book, song and bed. That’s it, and it’s about a 30-40 minute endeavor. There is no rocking, or pleading to go to sleep. This child gets up from our laps, goes and stands by his crib and puts his hands up! We lay him down, snuggle him up and he’s asleep for 12 hours. It’s AMAZING. We have no idea what we did. We didn’t really do anything. This child was just ready to self-soothe on his own. We’re still in cribs with no signs of crawling out, thank goodness. He sleeps with his bottom up, his feet crossed beneath him and it’s the sweetest thing ever.
Food: Teller is a food connoisseur. He likes to inspect, hold, touch, smell, pinch and poke his food, with a few bites in between. We’ve definitely got a slow eater on our hands, which I’m cool with, because he likes nearly everything! Loves greens (especially peas and green beans) and fruit (apples!). This little guy loves his milk too and is sure to gobble every last drop before he declares himself finished. Meat is still a struggle, but I get it kid.
I love his little fluffy duck tail! I don’t ever want to cut it!
Words: The words have exploded in the last 4 months. It is so fun to hear his little voice! Apple, diaper, shoes, dog, uh oh, purple, momma, dadda, nana, no!, sit, nose and lots of animal sounds are his favorite things to say at the moment. My favorite is “kak, kak” when you ask what sound a duck makes. It’s the best. I don’t want him to say it right, ever. Haha!
Likes: This boy loves to RUN! He takes off down the driveway and it scares me to death! He cackles the whole way. He loves feeling textures still, particularly Aaron’s and I’s shirts when he’s on our laps or sitting next to us. Cabinets are his favorite place to hang out. He also loves bath time, especially the last few minutes of bath time when the water is all drained and he can bend down and suck up some soapy suds. This boy is a dancer! Anytime he hears music, he starts swaying, wiggling and waving his hands. It’s awesome!
Dislikes: Not getting his way, going inside and bug bites (he has horrible reactions!)
We love you little Teller man! Keep being the you that we love!
Nixon’s 18-Month Update
Weight: 24.5 lbs (55th percentile)
Height: 31.25 (13th percentile)
Head: 20 (99th percentile)
Diaper Size: 4
Clothing Size: 18-24 months
Nicknames: Nicky, Nicky Ray Ray, Nix, Nicky Nix, Bubba
Personality: Nixon is still our sweet, sensitive little guy. He gives the best hugs! He snuggles in, grabs tight and then you feel little hands patting you on the back. He’ll wake up in the middle of the night sometimes and all he needs is a good hug before he’s back to sleep. Nixon is also turning into a little class clown! He loves doing funny things to make us laugh. He’ll walk in the room with a blanket on his head, or a shoe on his hand really anything that gets a giggle! He is his daddy through and through.
Sleep: He’s an excellent sleeper too. And just like Teller, he’s learned to self-soothe which makes bedtime a dream. He’s really into satin tags at the moment and he loves being snuggled in with one of his muslin blankets positioned just right so the satin blanket tag is in reach. Besides the few times where he needs a quick hug, he also sleeps through the night, from about 7-6. He’s a kicker too, and at night while Aaron and I are downstairs, we can hear his legs going thump, thump, thump directly above us.
Food: Oh man, get your nets and mitts ready, because this kid loves to throw his food! He’s gotten a little better over these last few weeks, but every now and then he’ll surprise us as a piece of broccoli goes flying past our heads. Singing, dancing (see above!) and giving him a kid fork all seem to be helpful distractions from throwing, but we could always use more tips if you have them! Apples are also his fruit of choice and we’ve recently discovered his love for ramen and anything noodle.
Words: Whoa!, uh oh, apple, diaper, stop, no, more, dog, momma, dadda, nana, school and Teller… among others! He’s also getting really good at recognizing numbers. He walked over to the growth chart a few nights ago, pointed to the number 2 and said “two!” so I’m convinced he’s the smartest kid alive. He also is a pretty good parrot. I once told him, “Hi sweetie!” and he said it right back! I can’t usually get him to say it again, but it’s fun to see where his mind goes!
Likes: Eating a whole apple he’s obsessed with apples right now! He wants to carry the whole thing around and munch on it throughout the afternoon. When he’s ready for a new bite, he spits out what’s in his mouth and starts all over again. Lots of mopping around here. 🙂 Playing fort underneath the bar stools, tight spaces, hanging out in cabinets, finding steps to sit on, paper, satin tags, animals of any kind, hiding old food around the house and making people laugh are at the top of his list. When we’re outside, he waves at every car that drives by. So sweet.
Dislikes: Getting his hair cut, riding with the sun in his eyes, coming inside, the ER (yep, we had our first trip for stitches!) and losing his paci
We love you Nixon Ray! We are having so much fun watching you grow.
They are really starting to show their brotherdom, too. They find pacis for each other, they check on each other when we’re out and about, they hug each other, they always sit next to each other. I love their connection. Sure, they fight and hit and smack each other. But I figure that is all normal brother stuff. 🙂
We’ll do this again when they hit 2 years! In just a short 6 months! Aaah!
