My mom’s side of the family is very Irish. They love shamrocks, any place named Dublin, Erin Go Bragh and of course, everything green. Including beer. On St. Paddy’s Day, I always get a text from my mom: Are you wearing green?
Considering I’m only 1/8 (or maybe 1/16?) Irish, my commitment to the holiday isn’t nearly as strong. But I do love green. And I needed a good excuse to get in the holiday spirit. That’s where Meg at Green with Decor comes in. She asked me to participate in her Green St. Patrick’s Day blog tour and I said sure! The ask was to feature a favorite green things and St. Patrick’s Day ideas.
And the perfect post is about our guest room, where all of our Ireland-loving guests stay. The last time I shared the space, it felt a little bland and needed a few items to re-energize. This is one of those room “makeovers” that gets done by shopping every nook and cranny of our house. To get started, I unearthed the green campaign side table (which was randomly in Redbook Magazine’s March Issue this year) from one million years ago.
I still love that thing! It has escaped so many garage sales and Craigslist purges. I think that means it is meant to stay. And it’s a great jewel-toned green. It’s actually painted with John Deere farm equipment spray paint.
I also added a plant and throw pillows with bits of blue and green, which are the colors in this room. The striped sham is from the Macy’s Whim collection and the painterly style pillow is Kate Spade Saturday from last year.
Quick note: if you look a little closer at the plant, you’ll see our wedding cake gnome toppers nestled inside the leaves.
On top of the side table are some bits and bobbles. Basically anything green or complementary to green (gold!) made the list.
This room is tiny, so it’s hard to get a wide shot, but you can see how the new-to-this-room side table works with the bed and pillows.
At the foot of the bed is this little set up:
I added the big Fiddleleaf and folded up the boys’ green/gold quilts in the basket to bring the green to all corners of the room.
Here’s a closer look. I love how the striped quilt on the bed works with the blue knobs on the dresser. And I’m sure many of you can recognize the stuff on top. The RANARP arm lamp, the Nate Berkus tray and our Rifle Paper Co. wedding portrait.
To the right of the dresser is a tiny little closet where guests can store their goodies.
And that’s our Inspired by Ireland re-do! And it’s as close as we’ll get to decorating for the big day. I have to admit though: it does make me want to enjoy a nice cold glass of green beer. Don’t mind if I do.
